Yesterday Tim saw that the Silverton, a smaller
off the strip casino, had a 6:00 $45 & 5 buy-in. I decided to go over and check it out. Turned out to be only 14 players, paid top 3. Starting stack was 4,000, pretty good for a small game. I was so card dead for the first hour that I couldn't even play my big blinds if someone min-raised preflop. We're down to 12, 6 to a table. Now the drama starts. Blinds are 100/200, and I see Ah-4d so I call the big blind, Just wanted to see a flop and hope for the best. Player next to me folds, next one raises to 800. He's been raising preflop so much that I really didn't believe him, frustration takes over and I go all in, $3000. He calls with A-J suited. Got sick to my stomach, but too late to do anything about it now. Flop comes x2x, 2 hearts, turn is 5 hearts. I'm holding my breath and calling for a 3 at the same time {is that possible?} Everyone else says you can get a flush too. Well, the impossible happens, and a 3 on the river, and I get my straight. 5 out of 6 players scream and laugh, we know who didn't. I apologize for screaming, but tell them if I didn't they would have been covered with brain matter because my head would have exploded. I even tell the guy it was a horrible play on my part, but I couldn't take it anymore. Then we're down to 10, 1 table. Unbelievably, pocket kings get dealt 5 times in about 15 minutes. Players were showing even when not called. We're down to 7. Then in the big blind I get A-A {WEEEE}. I've got about 7,700, and go all in. My aces get cracked too many times for me to slow play them. I think 5 had called BB and started folding. One player is thinking about it, and I say, oh, you got those pocket Kings? Well, he calls, and he did have K-K. Everyone bursts out laughing, and he's smiling, until I turn over my A-A. He actually lost some color in his face. Well, my aces held up, and now I'm chip leader. Oh, my God. Slowly, 2 more players are eliminated, we're now at 300/600. I'm in the BB and see J-J. Fold, fold, fold, SB is very short stacked, and raises to 1700. I say I'll put you all in. He says he didn't count on that, thinks about it, and finally folds. I say you want to see, and he says no, so I muck. Next hand the flop is A-5-x, x turn, J river. He says he would have loved that flop because he had A-5, and I said but the J on the river would have given me trips. Funny how it's always the next hand. He goes out soon after and we're down to 4. I get A-Q in SB and raise 3000. BB goes all in, another 4000 and I call. He has 10-10 and they hold up. Now I'm down to 8000. Blinds are up to 500/1000. Got to get some cards. I guess they think I'm bluffing and raising aggressively, but I'm getting the cards to make the raises. I'm in SB and see A-J os, and go all in. The BB, player who just took my chips, lost half of them in a hand before that, calls with J-10 hearts. He's got me outchipped by 1 500 chip. Flop is xxJ, turn is the dreaded 10, I wanted to throw up. Anyone want to take a guess what the river was? THAT'S RIGHT, IT WAS AN ACE!!!!!!! Of course I screamed again, and said how sick I was when there was a 10 on the turn. He says not as sick as he was to see the ace on the river. He's all in the next hand, and is eliminated. We're down to 3 {can you believe this? I had a hard time myself} I say, anyone want to chop 3 ways? Short stack says yes, but player who has maybe a few more chips than me doesn't say anything, just keeps chewing his gum. 1st pays $245, 2nd $147, 3rd $98. Why settle for 160 when you can get 245. And he's very aggressive. We play for a while, blinds are 1000/2000, I'm chip leader with about 30,000, other 2 are about even with about 12,000. I double up player to my left, still have a small chip lead. The player who didn't want to chop has 12000. He's BB, I'm button. I have A-6 os, and call bb. He goes all in, I call, and he turns over K-3 off. My Ace holds up, and we're down to 2. We play 1 hand and I ask, do you want to chop? He says sure. So we each got $196. Maybe I would have won 50 more, but we all know how fast a chip lead can change, maybe I would have gotten 50 less. We had played for almost 3 hours, and why butt heads when we both can walk away happy. I do my Rocky impression, arms up in the air, singing DA-DA-DA!!!! I'm still smiling. Makes me feel soooooooo much better after getting beaten in the limit cash games. Sorry this was so long, but wanted to share the drama and joy with you. My sister asked if it was all work or did I have fun, too. I said it was hard work, but this time I really had the MOST FUN. Debby |
