Wii League Idea - Feedback PLZ!

This is an interesting twist we could add to the next Pitbull league. First of all, we're considering doing a Wii as the grand prize. That's cool and will give us a change from the iPod.

Here's the twist I have in mind. Players earn “tickets” based on their finish in each event. First place wins 12 tickets, 2nd place 10 tickets, so on and so forth. At the end of the league, we do a simple random draw for the grand prize winner. The more tickets you have, the greater your chance of winning. We would ALSO do a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place leaderboard prize so that being at the top of total points does have value. 1st prize could be a retail value of $75, 2nd = $50, 3rd = $25. (Just tossing out numbers). Grand prize would be the Wii.

Here's an example of how it could turn out. We play 8 games and at the end, the players have scored:

Coach - 50

Bobby - 40

John - 34

Bill - 30

Jane - 27

Jim - 25

Donkey - 20

Farfinugin - 20

Loser - 5

Bmetz - 1

252 total points. I use this site ( http://www.random.org/integers/ ) to generate 1 random number between 1 and 252.

I just ran it and got 209. I start counting down from the top of the list. If any players have an equal number of tickets we list them in alpha order. The 209th ticket would fall in the range of “Donkey”, so he wins the Wii.

See how it works? I scored the most tickets at 50, and had the greatest chance of winning the Wii (19.84%). Bmetz sucked but still had a tiny shot at roughly .004% chance.

I think doing it like this would encourage players to keep coming to the events, even when they're obviously not going to finish at the top of the leaderboard. Every ticket earned increases their chance at the Wii.

We could have lots of ways to earn tickets:

Earn 1 ticket for each game you play. Earn 2 tickets for busting out Coach. Earn 2 tickets for busting out the last league champ. Play in every league game and get 10 tickets. Send me $25 on Stars and get 100 tickets... (ok, that last one wouldn't be fair)...
