This is from Monday's FTR $300 added $5 buyin NLHE tourny on UB. It's bubble time with only 10players left and tourny pays 9 but pays well! $5 buyin and 9th pays $20. I have about 7xBB stack. Depak has been shoving alot so there is a good chance his hand is not so great. I am in the BB seat and Depak in UTG shoves it allin. I look down at 99 and everyone folds to me. Like I said, its the bubble, so if I call and lose I lose a decent payout I could holdout for and maybe get still get lucky for a run on the final table. But it seems there is a better then good chance the 99 is good noting how agressively Depak has been playing and could hold up giving me a nice stack to take to the final table to improve my chances for a run - what do you do here and why ? I will post what I did and how it turned out after (or if) some other opinions are posted...

Even a persistent alliner, will usually be smart enough to have some sort of hand when making the move from an early position. Your hand of 99 is a coin toss to any two overcards, a dog to an over pair - which are his most likely holdings. My two real considerations are the following: first, is he an allin any Ax player; and second, I have to cosnider that his stack is also large enough relative to the blinds that only a maniac would be shoving in with pure crap.
Would I call - it would depend in part on the above and on how the rest of the table is playing. If it is playing tight and I am not seeing many decent hands, I would call in a heart beat. However, if it is playing loose with a lot of big bet confrontations I may consider a fold and wait until I had the vigorish for a move. |

OK, thanks for the replys. I played it exactly as n2k called it. I really wanted to shove because I get beat by so many pocket pairs on my Ax shoves I kept thinking maybe I'm due but then I remembered the cards have no memory despite what Mike Matesow says. So I folded and I did make it through the bubble and one other player to take 8th and $26 (good payout for $5 entry) so to answer n2k's second question I was just trying to get in the money and then maybe get lucky. I don't think Depak had pure crap - he makes alot of shoves but I see him deep in alot of tournies so I would have probably been in a coin toss to two overs for best case as jsawe suggested. The table was playing tight/aggresive which jsawe says he would call with the 99 in a heartbeat so maybe I should have called ?
