Default Calling all Floridians

Ive lived in Illinois nearly my whole life and have been a regular in the midwest casinos in Illinois,Missouri,Indiana, and even some in Mississippi. Just recently found out in 3 weeks I will be moving to a town around Okeechobee, Florida. Was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Florida casinos. I know every state's gaming laws are different and with Indian Gaming also in the state was wondering if there was any major differences. Anyone with any info to help me out with my live game play in Florida I would greatly appreciate it.

thank you

It has been many years since I lived in Florida and it was before my poker playing days. One thing I do remember is there is alot of crooked gambling in Florida. Hailai is fixed for obvious reasons (all the players are related). The horse and dog tracks continuously have doping scandals. So I would beware of the live poker games in those places - probably full of shills and crooked dealers. But then again thats no different then any other live poker room anywhere so as always just keep your antennae tuned for ripoff artists.

Just moved from Florida.

Poker. The poker scene:

Teh Poker scene is mediocre. Lots of games, but there are some limitations to betting in florida.

1. In a ring game the most you can buy in with is 100.

Tthe casinos and card rooms spread 2/2, 2/5, 5/10 NL, but you can only buy int $100. (2/2 is weird too) Some tables will work around this by the initial players when they sit down at a 5/10 table doing a $99bet preflop everyone calling then the 1st to act going all in with his dollar and the rest of the table folds. they do this until everyone has $1000 in front of them. They then play a normal 5/10 game, but if you bust you are screwed as you can only buy in with 100.

2,there is a rule about how many bets can be in a round. raise, re raise and a reraise is it. any betting past that don't count. does not come into play often, ut has more than once for me and it wound up costing me.

3, The best thing about Florida poker is the Awesome S&Gs. At the casinos and the better dog tracks they run them from 100+20 up to 1000+100. Most places in the stats will not run S&Gs unless it is a satellite. The 500+50 and 1000+100 at the Hard Rock is one of the softest you will ever play. Comparable to a $10 online. (you still need a bankroll due to variance)

There is always a cool tournament with some not so great regulars in them. The Hard Rocks have a regular schedule as do the dog tracks.

4. Dog Tracks can only run a card tables for 12hrs they usually open from 1pm to 1am depending on where they are. There is one near Tallahasee that found a way to obtain two licenses and can run for 24 HRs, but typically if you want to play marathon sessions you have to hit the Hard Rock.

6, There are boats that go out to international waters. These will be your most Vegas like experience. Only issue is time limitation. There used to be a boat out of Tampa the "Ocean Jewel" that was enourmous, and stayed anchored in international waters. You took a shuttle to it and could stay and play as long as you liked. they even comped rooms or had rooms for purchase.

Gaming:

Total suckage. There are no table games. Blackjack, craps, roulette etc....

There are only slot machines.

If you want to play those games, go on a casino boat.

Or better yet, head to Biloxi

Casino play seems really weak here due to the lack of big games. I prefer to play at the hard rocks due to the added tourist influx, but a lot of the dog tracks are filled with a lot of Fit or Fold older people which are extremely easy to read. I don't really get into the card clubs but if you want bigger games networking through those seems to be the best way. Even then you don't really know who you are playing with and if they are soft playing each other comparative to how they will play you.

I would recommend playing more online poker and occasionally taking a trip to a local Seminole Indian Casino and/or Hard Rock Casino on a Friday or Saturday to break the monotony.

I lived in Florida(Tallahassee) for 4 years. I just moved back in 06. When I was there, I played a LOT of poker! I can't help you a lot with the casinos as i didnt play there, the reason being is that I played tons of live home games which i dominated on a weekly basis. My opinion is to stick with the home games there(which are sooo easy to find) and you should be extremely happy with your decision.
