There has been too much discussion about the play of so called pro Wis something or other.
What I am about to say may anger many but here goes pros and this means poker, nba, nhl, mlb, or nfl are not role models. Even if they are hall of famers in their sport, they may not been people who we should respect or aspire to emulate. I have not tried to denegrate the observations or opinions of other players who were more engaged and enraged; simply stated I just have a different set of expectations. Some people might consider my expectations to be too liberal and those people are entitled to their perspective. Typically people who excel in some respects are deficient in other ways. I think this is called Ying and Yang. |

Good grief. Here is a news flash - There has not been many more then just us three discussing it - lol. So if you think there has been enough discussion just cease and desist - instead you start a new thread on it? If no one else wants to discuss it that will be the end of it - let it go. For me - I stand by my opinion and post - on that day and table the guy was a jerk - if you disagree I am ok with that. I hope this is the type of forum that encourages folks to diasagree agreeably and not just agree or dont post. I do respect your different opinions even if I do not agree with all of them. That said, IMHO, you are also wrong about Pro's not being role models. I don't think role model is something you conciously sign up for rather it comes along with the pro status so there is no getting around it. Obviously some are just better at it then others and better at certain times and tables then others.
Good luck at the tables. |

I know just 3 of us seem to write although possibly more are watching. And yes I tried to shamelessly market the continuation via repositioning.
I am not sure if you had a chance to watch the heads up poker championship where Huck Seed was playing Vanessa. When Huck took the lead he shamelessly "punished" Vanessa into submission. 2007 WSOP Main Event final table Yang basically used the same strategy. I believe that is called Big Stack Poker. I do not think that Yang or Seed lacked any respect for their opponents. Part of playing poker is changing gears and making the proper changes to deal with different styles of play. One of the reasons to show up at a forum is to understand a differing position and give it some thought. If everyone agreed it would just not be any fun. |

Man - you go down hard - I guess that also makes you a good poker player. I saw both events you reference. They are totally different situations. Both cases are "late" in tournies, huge blinds, and everyone is itm at that point. Hyper agression is not an uncommon strategy at that point in tournies and as we all know has been proven successful - not always - but sometimes - and not unexpected by other players at that point. Note also that in Seed's case it was a best 2/3 final match for the head's up tourny and he had already won the first match so he is just playing more agressive in the second match being already up 1. I don't think there is even a term (it is beyond hyper aggression) other then stupid for playing like Wis whatever going allin everyhand/any two cards from the getgo in a tourny when blinds are at there lowest! You only see this from the beginning of tournies among newbies in freerolls and it is a proven losing strategy when taken to the extreme as Wis whatever did. Wisco is not a newbie so he knows it is a losing strategy (using the term strategy very loosly as it really is closer to employing no strategy) and I think that would have been obvious to you also, had you been there watching it, just as Nadi stated. All it accomplishes is take out some good but unlucky players making correct calls which he knows will happen especially after he sucks out the first couple but continues shoving over and over until it is all gone. IMHO.

I must confess that I did not watch this guy play a couple of weeks ago.
I can say that I was at a table with him for an hour or so Sunday and I did not see any hyper aggressive behavior. I did see that he was again unable to play the same times I was disconnected. When you watch an online game you never know for sure what you are seeing or whose play you are actually observing. In a heads up tourney I watched H Walker of football fame make a laydown that I have to think was made Annie Duke, So who knows if either of us actually watched the real Wis pro or it might have been his kid sister. Its a full time job to take care of my own game. As a general rule I see no upside to telling another player how to conduct themselves at the table. I see this happen all the time and these suggestions merely tell the offensive player to continue or turn it up a notch. |
