I have recieved no replies for "folding AA stories" or for "7-2 stories" so I am a little disapointed but lets try "hands you can not get away from stories". These are those hands that you feel are locks - that you picture in your mind as they develop right up to the end - and that you presumably do everything right on - except win! Here's mine from last nights NDB league game. It is the final table, 6 handed, so everyone left is itm. The blinds are 800/1600. I am chip leader and Lunar is second highest stack and first to act. Lunar correctly makes it expensive to stay in but I continue to call, drawing to my nut flush, and big implied odds, and complete it! I am thinking how sweet it is until the frigging river pairs the board and he goes allin! DAMN! However, lots of potential hands are possible with this board he could go allin with - possible broadway straight, smaller flush, and of course he could have a boat with that frigging river, but its Lunar so he could have 7-3 os also! - lol. I feel I have to call and of course he has the boat...sigh...Oh well, now I am interested in hearing how you might have played this differently and why...

I don't know why u would ask how you could play this hand differently i dont know but i think getting ur money in when u have the nuts is pretty tough to screw up. Simple u just got unlucky now the only way u avoid this is a fold on the turn which i personally say is a bad move given it was 6k into an 9k pot? pot odds were almost dead on actually slightly in ur favor mix that with the ok implied odds ur getting could be better than that dont know the opponent u were playing, but overall i think the diamond under most circumstances might slow down the action so thats kinda a wash but still definitely worth atleast a call.
Now the other way you could go is coming over the top which personally I probably would have done if i raised pre and someone bet into out of position that right there often shows weakness especially if the bet is a considerable amount less than the pot. Just think about it if they knew they had the best hand off the flop with that type of flop they would want to end the action right there with at least a pot sized bet they dont want to give opponents odds on calling which in this scenario ur opponent did. Now also worst case scenario off that flop is u need a diamond to pull ahead and a raise would either take down the pot right there or build the pot and put the implied odds through the roof considering u both had huge stacks and i dont think ur opponent would have put u on the flush draw after re raising the flop. Also the re raise gives u alot of extra info if they just call the re raise, that would have to lead u to believe either they were on a draw too or they are not as strong as you think. Then if they come back with an all in (worst case scenario) u'll be pot committed and still have a chance to take down a big pot. Thinking it over again u probably made the right decision my brain still in cash game mode just that lead out bet off the flop always just feels so weak to me in low limit games where it is usually straight up poker, id say higher games alot of people use that bet to encourage a raise but id say its 85% of the time showing weakness . So cash game definite re raise off flop if in a heads up pot, but tourny it's very tough to say what id do all i can say is you really didnt do anything wrong there. Hmm that turned out to be longer just really wanted to stress there are only two ways u can play that hand as far as im concerned a fold off the flop to that bet is outof the question Last edited by UIIIU; 05-19-2009 at 02:24 AM. |
