Here are my thoughts about the hand. Jen was one of the short stacks at the table and we were at the bubble moment. After the flop there was $3500 in the pot. With Jen's all in there was $8,710 and it was going to cost me an additional $5210 to call. I'm sure the math would say this a fold situation.

I didn't think she would have pushed if she had a 2 so I figured I was up agains a J. If I made the call and missed I would be down to $17233 which I felt was still a decent size stack. If my read was correct, I had two over cards and two chances to hit and get into the money. I knew I'd be gambling when I made the call. I got lucky and caught the K on the river.

A few comments were made after I made this call, but was it really that bad given the situation? There are a lot of great card players here at NDB and I'd like to hear your thoughts. (or maybe I don't)

Sorry for knocking you out Jen. Nothing personal.

quote "i had two overcards and two chances to hit and get into the money"

it seems like u were only concerned with making the money, but with bobbijo

so short u were a good bet to make the money anyway. Because the prize

money is so much greater for the top spots your goal should be to make the

final table with as big a stack as possible. gambling without close to the

right odds when u dont have to doesnt help accomplish this.

dont play just to make the money but to make the most money u can

I did indeed get impatient. We had been on the bubble for quite a while when this hand was played.

Thanks for the advice.

well u had about 20% chance of drawing out for the win with the turn and river to come. and you had only around 18% of your chips commited so technically speaking it was not the best spot to put them all in. Believe u needed around 32% to justify a pot odds call actually a bit more rounded lets say 5k call to win 13k around 2.7 to 1 so lets just say 3 to 1 so 33% and tthat is when you know ur k and q are both outs which may not have been the case. but nix does make a great point with needing chips because prize pool is so slanted towards the top 2 in the ndb games but still theink u could of found a better spot

Excellent points guys thanks! I had a feeling that the math didn't support the call. I hope Jen will forgive me for making it.

Based on the chat box, she still seems ticked about it.

Ok, math was bad, and we now know how and why you made the call. What I want to know is how you make the catch. If you can teach me that I will no longer suck at poker - can you help me?
